If your itinerary is already rushed, a flight often wins on usable time. If the train itself is part of the trip and replaces a hotel night, the rail option can make more sense than the headline fare suggests.

The current refresh found the 12Go Hanoi → Da Nang rail page advertising the route from about 737,000 VND, while class-specific listings vary above that. Vietnam Airlines was surfacing selected one-way Economy examples from 907,181 VND. These are dated observations, not guaranteed future fares.

When the train is better value
- You want the Reunification Express experience rather than treating transport as dead time.
- Your schedule can absorb an overnight or long rail journey without cutting a high-value day.
- A sleeper berth replaces a hotel night you would otherwise pay for.
- You prefer city-centre station access over airport transfers and airport process.
When flying is better value
- You have a short Vietnam trip and every usable half-day matters.
- The live fare remains close to the rail option after baggage and transfer costs.
- You already have a tight hotel or activity schedule in Da Nang / Hoi An.
- You do not sleep well on overnight transport.
Da Nang is often only the transport endpoint
If your actual destination is Hoi An, add the final road transfer before comparing options. A flight to Da Nang followed by a Hoi An transfer and a train to Da Nang followed by the same onward transfer do not create identical timing or convenience.

- Check live rail and flight inventory for your actual date.
- Add baggage and both first/last-mile transfers.
- Price any hotel night the train replaces.
- Put a value on the usable hours gained or lost.
- Choose the option that improves the whole itinerary, not the one with the smallest ticket number.
