Vietnam airport transfer cost · 2026

Airport transfer cost is really an endpoint-and-friction decision

The cheapest airport ride is not always the cheapest useful option. Terminal, hotel address, arrival time, luggage, group size and pickup certainty can change the decision more than a small headline-fare difference.

Quick answer: what airport transfers cost

Noi Bai public bus12,000–55,000 VND (~US$0.50–2)

Official airport routes cover several Hanoi endpoints; Route 86 to Hanoi Railway Station is 50,000 VND.

Selected private-transfer examplesFrom ~180,000 VND in HCMC; ~323,000 VND in Hanoi

Current Klook marketplace 'from' examples for selected city destinations, not city-wide averages or guaranteed future fares.

Da Nang private transferFrom ~US$6–7 to selected city zones; ~US$11 to Hoi An

Current selected Klook examples show why the final destination matters more than the airport name alone.

Compare five things before you compare prices

  1. Terminal and pickup zone. Domestic and international arrivals can use different meeting points.
  2. Exact hotel endpoint. “Hanoi”, “Ho Chi Minh City” or “Da Nang” is too broad for a useful transfer comparison.
  3. Traveller and luggage count. A cheap vehicle is not useful if the bags do not fit.
  4. Arrival time. Public transport may be excellent value in its operating window and irrelevant outside it.
  5. What the quote includes. Check tolls, airport or parking fees, waiting rules, child-seat needs and cancellation terms.

VOAB therefore compares airport transfers as a door-to-door product, not as one national “taxi price”.

Hanoi: Noi Bai Airport to the city

Airports Corporation of Vietnam states that Noi Bai is about 28 km from central Hanoi and roughly 35–40 minutes by car under its general airport description. Real travel time can be longer with traffic and the exact hotel location.

Official public-bus prices

RouteMain endpointOfficial fare
07Cau Giay12,000 VND
90Kim Ma15,000 VND
17Long Bien15,000 VND
109My Dinh12,000 VND
86Hanoi Railway Station50,000 VND
68Ha Dong55,000 VND
E10Ocean Park20,000 VND

The airport page also publishes operating windows for these routes. Check your actual arrival time rather than assuming every bus runs all night.

Grab and private transfer

Grab’s published Hanoi 4-seat structure is 25,000 VND for the first 2 km, then 8,500 VND/km plus 400 VND/min. Grab also states that dynamic pricing can apply, and the final app fare can exclude applicable tolls or surcharges. Use the live app quote for the real airport trip rather than calculating a fake fixed fare from the table.

In the 21 August evidence pass, selected Klook Noi Bai transfer listings to popular Hanoi destinations showed headline prices around 322,967–342,319 VND (~US$12–13) per vehicle. These are selected marketplace examples, not a Hanoi average.

Ho Chi Minh City: Tan Son Nhat to your hotel

Airports Corporation of Vietnam describes Tan Son Nhat as about 6 km from the city centre. That short straight-line distance does not guarantee a short transfer: traffic, terminal pickup and the hotel’s exact district can dominate the journey.

Grab’s published Ho Chi Minh City 4-seat structure is 25,000 VND for the first 2 km, then 9,000 VND/km plus 300 VND/min, with dynamic pricing possible. Again, use the live app quote rather than turning this structure into a promised airport fare.

Selected Klook Tan Son Nhat transfer examples in the same evidence pass showed some city destinations from 180,182 VND (~US$7), while another selected destination displayed 275,895 VND (~US$11). The variation is the point: endpoint and inventory matter.

Da Nang Airport: city or Hoi An?

Da Nang is the cleanest example of why the destination label matters. A transfer into Da Nang city and a transfer onward to Hoi An are different products.

Grab’s published Da Nang 4-seat structure is 22,000 VND for the first 2 km, then 11,000 VND/km plus 400 VND/min, with dynamic pricing possible.

Current selected Klook listings showed private transfers from about US$6–7 to several Da Nang city zones and from about US$11 to Hoi An Old Town or Hoi An Dong. Re-check the exact date, destination and vehicle before booking.

Public bus vs Grab vs pre-booked private transfer

OptionUsually strongest when…Main thing to verify
Public busSolo traveller, daytime arrival, light luggage and a useful route endpointOperating window, stop location and last-mile walk/ride
Grab / ride-hailYou want a live quote and flexible hotel-to-hotel routingPickup zone, demand pricing, tolls/surcharges and vehicle size
Pre-booked private transferLate arrival, family/group, heavy luggage or you value pickup certaintyMeeting point, waiting policy, luggage allowance and final hotel address
Metered taxiYou prefer an airport taxi queue or the app options are inconvenientMeter/fare rules, airport charges and official pickup arrangement

No mode wins every airport. The useful comparison is the total friction and payable amount for your specific arrival.

Group size changes the math

Airport buses are usually priced per passenger. Grab, taxi and private transfer quotes are generally vehicle-level products. For a couple, family or small group, divide the vehicle total by the number of travellers before comparing.

ExampleVehicle / group totalPer person for 4
Selected Hanoi private-transfer anchor~330,000 VND~82,500 VND
Route 86 bus50,000 VND each50,000 VND

The bus is still cheaper in this simple example, but the meaningful premium for four people is much smaller than comparing one bus ticket with the full car price. Add the last-mile ride and luggage friction before deciding.

Airport-transfer checklist before you book

  • Confirm airport code and terminal.
  • Use the exact hotel name and address, not only the city.
  • Enter the real passenger and luggage count.
  • Check whether the pickup time should follow scheduled arrival or expected terminal exit.
  • Read waiting-time and flight-delay rules for a pre-booked transfer.
  • Check tolls, airport/parking fees and late-night surcharges where applicable.
  • Keep the driver/booking contact available offline or on mobile data.

If you still need connectivity after landing, use the Vietnam SIM & eSIM guide before relying on ride-hailing or pickup messages.

How VOAB checks airport-transfer prices

We use official airport pages for public-transport information, official Grab tables for the published fare structure, and marketplaces only for selected-date private-transfer inventory.

We do not convert a base fare into a promised airport quote. We do not call selected marketplace listings city averages. Dynamic examples are dated and refreshed before publication.

FAQ

How much is Hanoi airport to the Old Quarter?

There is no single honest fixed answer across all modes. Official Noi Bai public buses currently range from 12,000 to 55,000 VND depending on route, with Route 86 to Hanoi Railway Station at 50,000 VND. Selected private-transfer examples were around 323,000–342,000 VND per vehicle in the 21 August check. Grab should be checked in the app for your exact hotel and time.

Is Grab available in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang?

Grab’s official Vietnam page lists GrabCar in the urban areas of all three cities and publishes city fare structures. Availability and the final airport quote still depend on the app at the time you travel.

Should I pre-book an airport transfer in Vietnam?

It can be rational for late arrivals, families, larger groups, bulky luggage or when pickup certainty matters more than chasing the lowest possible fare. For a simple daytime solo arrival, public transport or ride-hail can be better value.

Is a private transfer always more expensive than public transport?

In absolute cash terms it often is, but compare the whole group and the last-mile cost. A vehicle quote split across several travellers can narrow the gap substantially.
