A 21 August 2026 refresh of selected Booking.com Hanoi listings showed dorm beds roughly around US$4–10 per night and simple double rooms roughly around US$16–22 per night across the examples checked. These are observations, not city averages: tax treatment, discounts, room type, cancellation terms and travel date can move the final payable total.

Room-sharing changes the group budget
A couple in one 550,000 VND room is not the same as two solo travellers each buying a private room. That is why the VOAB calculator treats Smart and Comfort accommodation as a shared cost rather than multiplying a couple total blindly.

Old Quarter vs cheaper outer area: calculate the friction tax
A room outside your main sightseeing area can look cheaper and still cost more in practice once you add repeated ride-hail trips and lost time. For a short stay, paying a little more to walk can be good budget travel.
